There are so many times that I look at the sky and am amazed by the beauty in the cloud formations. But a weather reporter will look at the very same cloud formation and see a large grey bank of clouds waiting to dump a tremendous storm. Other times, I’ll see a pile of bird poop on my clean concrete patio and get frustrated, but then I hear the sweet little chirping of birds and realize there is a nest directly above and momma is busy feeding her babies.
How often do we see something one way and then someone else sees the same thing completely differently? Or you think something is one way and then, when you look a little further, you see it’s not what you thought at all? I’ve come to realize that you can look at a piece of something and think you’re seeing the whole thing. But if you step back to get a broader perspective of the same detail, it will look completely different.
For example, what do you see when you look at this picture?
What about this one?
Are you starting to see something different from what you first thought you were looking at?
How about now? Is the “bigger picture” coming into focus?
Stand back just a little further and see what comes into view now…….
See? What you thought was one thing, once you had a chance to see it from a little further back, became something completely different! I love that I can be in the middle of something and think, “hmm, I guess it’s going to be like this” and then another piece of the puzzle will fall into place and the picture will look completely different!
That is the secret to my philosophy that life is a giant adventure! Today looks one way, but when you add tomorrow and the next day, you end up with something totally different! Ultimately, the way the pieces come together is God’s plan. He can see the whole of life and the world while we see only a tiny piece of it, from a very small perspective. My perspective plus God’s perspective equals a life that is full and abundant, rather than small and insignificant.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if we all were able to combine our own, small views of life and join them together for a grander, even more beautiful work of art?
What I love most about this crazy life, is the adventure of it! – Juliette Binoche
