Day 7 – Stay away from every kind of evil. – 1 Thessalonians 5:22
How on earth are we supposed to stay away from every kind of evil? We live in a world that, for the most part, is nothing but evil! If I focus on spending every moment of my life trying to stay away from evil, I will miss living the kind of life that God wants for me; a life filled with joy and peace.
But do you want to know the greatest secret? We don’t have to rely on our own strength and sheer will to stay away from evil. We have the best Partner, the strongest Champion and the loudest Cheerleader to help!
Jesus came to earth to live a human life. That means He was faced with the same temptations and frustrations that we all live with. Because He is God, He had the power to keep those human issues at bay. And the greatest gift He gave us besides His death on the cross for our salvation, was His Holy Spirit.
It’s the Holy Spirit that is my guiding light to get me through the evil I come across every day. Praise God, I don’t have to do it alone!
My prayer for you, dear friend, is that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God loves you. He wants nothing but the best for you and He hasn’t left you to fend for yourself!
I’m so thankful we’ve spent time together this past 7 days and I pray that you are encouraged as you head out into a new week. I can’t think of a better way to end than with Paul’s words as he ended his letter to the church of the Thessalonians:
Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for He who calls you is faithful.
– 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
