This afternoon is lovely and quiet. I have all the windows in the house opened to draw in the breeze. I’m sitting in the sunroom and I can hear the front fountain, birds and (because it’s California) the cars driving by periodically. I love this place that God has allowed us to call home for the past 17 years! We are so blessed! It’s a quiet neighborhood where we all know each other and watch out for each other. Even the loud barking dog next door, Ralphie, is a wonderful part of the neighborhood and makes me feel very safe at all times!
I love my short days at work because I can get home while there’s still daylight and I have some time for myself. This is the time of day that things are winding down and moving more slowly. With my children grown and gone, the mornings are quiet, but with an anticipation of what the day has to offer, a kind of expectant waiting to see what’s in store and to make sure I’m ready for whatever. The end of the day is more of a reflection of what happened throughout the day – what went well, what maybe not so much. How I could have handled something better or a small pat on the back because I actually got something right!
Reflection is great and it’s something I whole heartedly recommend to one and all. Life can get so busy and in the way of what is going on around you that it’s easy to miss those moments of quiet. One of the facts of life is that it is short. If we don’t take the time to stop and reflect both on what will be and what has been, we just may miss the whole point of life.
God created us in His image and the Bible says over and over that God was pleased with all that He created. Did you catch that? He’s pleased with ALL that He created. That means He’s pleased with me! He’s pleased with you! He’s pleased with my successes and failures of the day. And He’s pleased with this simple little patch of earth He has blessed me with as my home.
Thank you, Lord, for all that you’ve done today and all that You’re going to do tomorrow. Help me be up to the task of being available and present to enjoy all You have in store!
For the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. – 1 Corinthians 10:26

Deanna, You definitely encouraged, inspired and lifted me up and I’ve only just begun to read. I’m looking forward to reading more. I feel so proud that I can say I knew you when…. I know you definitely make your Mom and Dad very proud. Keep on inspiring and being the blessing that you are.
